Legionnaires’ Disease Outbreak That Occurred In Moncton, Canada, In 2019 Has Sparked Several Lawsuits

A Legionnaires disease outbreak that occurred in Moncton, Canada, in 2019 has sparked several lawsuits. Twelve of the Sixteen individuals that were known to be infected are suing Organigram, a Moncton based cannabis grower. They allege that Organigram failed to properly test and maintain its cooling towers, which resulted in this outbreak. In 2019, this outbreak hospitalized 15 of the 16 individuals that were infected with Legionnaires’ disease. All the plaintiffs either lived, worked near, or travelled by Organigram before becoming symptomatic. The cases make three main accusations. Kentucky woman dies from Legionnaires’ disease after stay at Guest House at Graceland hotel

A 62 year old woman died on June 21, 2017, after staying at the Guest House at Graceland in Memphis, Tennessee from June 10-13, 2017 with three members of her family. Legionnaires’ disease was reportedly listed as her cause of death by the medical examiner on her autopsy. Her accompanying family members also fell ill and tested positive for Legionnaires’ disease. State of Michigan and Flint to Replace 20,000 Water Lines by 2020

According to the settlement filings from the ACLU and NRDC’s lawsuit against the City of Flint and the State of Michigan, both defendants are to replace around 18,000 tainted water lines leading to homes from the Flint municipal water supply. The whole operation is expected to cost ninety million dollars and is slated to be completed by 2020. As a result of the disuse of anti-corrosive agents, as well as chlorinated water treatment, these water lines carried not only exceedingly high levels of lead, but legionella bacteria that ended up causing the deaths of 12 Flint residents. Seven employees of Lucas County Department of Job & Family Services in Ohio file lawsuit

On December 20, 2016, a Complaint was filed in Lucas County Common Pleas Court by seven employees of Lucas County Department of Job & Family Services after the employees developed illnesses from exposure to Legionella bacteria. The cooling system within the company building located at 3210 Monroe Street, tested positive for Legionella bacteria. Six of the seven Plaintiffs are still employed at the company, while the seventh has since retired.
